If your roof is suffering from one of the common fibreglass flat roof problems, it will be necessary for fibreglass roof repair work to be conducted.
To carry out GRP repairs surface preparation is the key, if the fibreglass roof has suffered form impact fractures, the areas will need to be sanded back to the resin/chop stranded mat area. Apply acetone cleaner1 and rub clean, make sure all debris are removed so that the wind does not blow any foreign particles into the area.
Apply resin to the affected area, imbed CSM matting (size to suit), install another coat of resin, consolidate CSM and break the mat apart, allow to cure
After curing time, sand down area. Clean the surface and apply a UV protection coating.
A lot of GRP defects are either common faults such as not installing enough resin in to the (CSM) matting, the look will be a pinhole effect and water can pass under the matting which will slowly soak int the matting and slowly leeching into the system. Also, water contamination to the laminate (white staining) these should be re-laid 450g/m² and laminate.
Another common fault is board swelling at the roof edges with condensation from roof edges or directly placing the boards against the outer walls, also by poorly fixed boards also insufficient expansion gaps have been left between the boards if over 100m². with a lot of these roof faults it’s easy to see how defects can occur with GRP fitted systems.
